At age the of 20, Chef Rafael moved with his wife to Cleveland, Ohio. His goal was to continue his Italian culinary skills which he acquired in the region of Verona, Italy.Chef Rafael was introduced to the restaurant industry at a very young age. His grandmother was very well known for her home-cooked dishes. She loved having her grandson with her as she cooked meals as soon as he was able to walk. He was six years old when he first learned how to make homemade pasta and, by age 14, he was ready to embark on his own culinary journey. His first stop was Verona, Italy,which was the setting for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The romantic and rich architectural heritage of Verona was matched by the great culinary venues of that city and Chef Rafael's experience and skills grew exponentially. Three years later, Chef Rafael traveled to Belgium and France where he then experienced cooking French cuisine as well.

Everything here is carefully curated to create a pleasant and interesting dining experience for those who visit. Cleveland magazine named it one of the 25 best restaurants in the city. Crumb & Spigot's menu is best described as a Gastro Pub, with a near equal emphasis on quality eating and drinking. Starters include Mussels with jalapeño lemon butter, house made Soft Pretzels with triple mustard and Dry-Aged Meatballs. For entrées, The Bar Steak with whiskey mustard and mushroom pan sauce or sandwiches like the Lobster Burger or Carolina Pulled Pork. Amazing food and service. Wonderful a very nice Caesar salad followed by Braised Lamb Shank with a rich sauce and Tagliatelle Pasta. I had a chocolate mousse for dessert, so rich and delicious I will be remembering it for days to come. I also tasted the Potato Gnocchi with a Pesto Cream Sauce which was divine, I will be having that on our next visit. Staff is always attentive and personable. An enjoyable experience.

We went on a slow Monday midafternoon to celebrate our engagement! The Ikura was amazing, and the portion of crab Poke was generous and very delicious. The house salad came out lightning fast too! I would Highly recommend this place to any couple as a fun weeknight date or a special occasion. The photos don't do the ambiance justice. Can't wait to see what this place looks like in the evening!
