Set in a charismatic 16th century building, diners can expect food of the highest standards, made using the finest local and seasonal produce and lovingly prepared by a small team of chefs led by Head Chef & Director Lee Adams. In addition to the food, we offer a selection of fine wines, quirky cocktails, and have a collection of over 25 craft gins available.World War I poet Siegfried Sassoon lived in Matfield and is the inspiration behind our name. Sassoon was awarded the Military Cross for "conspicuous gallantry" and later won acclaim for his writing. Open Tuesday to Sunday with food served all day from noon.We now have 3 Giant heated Tipis, they provide lots of fresh air and a lovely open environment, they are also heated.Formerly an 18th Century farmhouse boasting exposed beams, oak floors, exposed brickwork and oak tables. This leads to a very relaxed and cosy atmosphere with candle lit tables and real flame stoves.The cuisine is typically modern European, classically cooked using cornerstones such as stock pots to create their sauces with a brigade that has a passion for what they do. Welcome to The Warren Restaurant, an extension of The Crowborough Estate, holding stock of Sussex Cattle, Boer Goats, Fallow deer, and Wild boar amongst others which the restaurant draws on for its menu. Incredible food and outstanding service. It was our wedding day and they were incredible from start to finish. The staff had extensive knowledge of the food and wine and were able to offer great recommendations. We will be back again soon!

We have eaten here before and would thoroughly recommend it. Very attentive staff and also accommodated our puppy with a few dog biscuits, nice touch. Lovely open fire, although unfortunately we were seated too far away to benefit.
