We make British food with a classic or modern slant. We source our ingredients from the local fields, woodlands and waters. Everything is cooked on the premises, including the sourdough bread and the icecreams.The Good Food Guide (2023) says: "A fittingly quaint old building, complete with original features, given a suave modern twist via grey panelling and contemporary furniture. Chef-proprietor Martin Peacock has built his menu on classical French traditions and impeccable sourcing and there’s real creativity and originality on show here. The international wine list offers a decent but not overlong selection, with accessible pricing.Vegetarian: we will always offer at least one starter and one main vegetarian choice. Located right in the heart of the town's High Street and Citadel, The George Grill is the restaurant of The George in Rye, one of the finest hotels on the South coast. Our head chef, Oscar, offers you a classic British Grill menu combining his love of charcoal cooking with a Latin twist. The Grill is a firm local favourite and celebrates the best of ingredients and suppliers in the area. At the heart of the kitchen is a wood-charcoal grill, where our kitchen team roast seafood landed that day from fishermen based in Rye Harbour. We also serve Romney Marsh lamb, Aberdeen Angus grass-fed beef and seasonal vegetables from our farmer based in Boughton Monchelsea. The Ferry Inn is a serendipitous country public house with welcoming staff, character rooms, candlelight, open fires, real ales, popular foods and fantastic sunsets. A 17th Century former smugglers haunt-- this is a pretty little pub in a lovely marshland setting with tables and benches on the front terrace and in the back alongside the riverbank. Inside it's very easygoing and chatty. The main bar has hop-draped painted beams, a green dado, and stools against the bar where they serve a beer called Oxney Ale specially brewed for the pub by Westerham Brewery. To the right is a cosy eating area with wheelback chairs-- ideal for a banquette with friends around a few long tables.

    We had a bad experience at The George after the pandemic. So thought we would try again as we live locally. This time was fantastic with great food and service and it is so beautifully decorated. Our lovely Spanish waiter made us feel very spoilt, especially as this was our Ruby Anniversary. We will be back.

    Absolutely love this place. The food was delicious and plentiful, service was spot on. Perfect place to celebrate my husbands birthday and our wedding anniversary. T hanks for having us :)

    Just loved it. We booked it for after seeing a film at the Kino. We had the little table in front of the window. Jazz playing softly in the background and a very pleasant waitress. Food was great. Ordered more like a tapas style meal. Delicious. Very affordable too. Thanks The Union. Just finished off our date night perfectly.

    Celebrating a family birthday, this turned out to be a perfect destination. From entering and receiving a warm welcome, we were given a seasonal menu and comprehensive wine list. We started with a cocktail, an alcohol free cocktail for the driver of the party, and free amuse-bouche. We ordered starters; wild chanterelle mushrooms on sourdough, a beetroot and goats cheese starter, and a lobster risoni, all delicious. Mains were Dover sole, and two Guinea fowl… perfect. One of the party was gluten free and felt confident and catered for. Can’t recommend it enough.
