We had a 3 p.m. reservation for eight people, and the staff did an outstanding job of getting us seated by 2:45 p.m. We arrived at 2:10 p.m. because the opera “The Magic Flute” ended sooner than expected. The food, beverages, and service were excellent!

This was a fabulous lunch from beginning to end! The service was just out of this world as was the food! I had their marvelous French onion soup to start, and then a large order of steak tartare with pomme fritts! Then to top it all off I had a gorgeous hot fudge sundae with their special ice cream of the week, which was peanut butter and boy was it ever special! All topped up with a mountain of whipped cream and some beautiful toasted almonds. Please don’t share this with my cardiologist.

Becco is an Italian restaurant near the theatre district. While narrow at the entrance, it extends room after room to the back. Service was prompt and sensitive to theatre show times. Tables are very close together, but since everyone is there to eat and enjoy, it only presents a problem to the claustrophobic. Appetizers were generous and very well presented. The special - lasagne Bolognese - was well put together, flavorful and rich. Even the bread and olives, put out early were top notch. The wine list is broad, but the pours for individual servings were generous. Unless you plan to finish a whole bottle, one glass should be ample. We didn't get desserts, but the dessert menu was tantalizing. Next time. Service was first rate. If you plan on going, I would advise reservations in advance, which we did. Wait times when we got there were over an hour, and on an early Thursday evening. This is good classic Italian cooking, well-presented and customer focused.

I usually rate it very high but this time the power went out in the restaurant. We were in the dark for about an hour. I was surprised that a place such as Rails doesn’t have a generator.
