Matsuri opened in Federal Hill in 1996 as the culmination of Bill Tien’s vision for Japanese cuisine in Baltimore. Matsuri is frequented by Baltimore’s many sports celebrities as well as visiting filmmakers and political figures. His chefs are routinely hired to prepare sushi dinners for customers and their friends in their homes.

The cuisine is complemented by a beverage program with over 500 French wine labels and an extensive collection of Cognac and Armagnac.Transporting guests to another time and place while being rooted in the present, Monarque hosts a rotation of acts every weekend, with Baltimore's best jazz musicians, cabaret vocalists, burlesque dancers, and more.     Food was visually appealing and great vibes. Great views and everyone with the dresscode dresses very nice. The “inspection” downstairs before you go up definitely helps enforce it. Feels exclusive. For the prices I would expect a leveling up of the food but it was definitely good. I would say they miss the price v food quality balance by about 10-15% in pricing.

    A Hidden Gem in Baltimore's Speakeasy Scene I recently had the pleasure of visiting Top Shelf, a true hidden gem in Baltimore's speakeasy world. Despite not being able to indulge in alcohol during the month of January, I decided to treat my daughter for her birthday and we were not disappointed. Located inside the Game On Bar Arcade, Top Shelf offers an authentic speakeasy experience that is perfect for aficionados and newcomers alike. The cocktail selection was top-notch. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed her French 75, while her boyfriend savored his old-fashioned. As for myself, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and creativity of the non-alcoholic honeycomb drink I ordered. The service was impeccable, with the mixologist demonstrating a deep knowledge of her craft and a genuine passion for mixology.
