General Public is inspired by trying to imagine what an upscale English pub would be if it had the heart of an American brasserie (and was open 11 to 11). It’s also going to signal a little bit of steakhouse, but not too much. And finally, it will look behind itself at the Black Hoof, which you will see reflected in James Santon’s menu here and there. In terms of vibe, the main floor is ‘everything’s gone green’, with lush comfortable banquette seating, warm wood, and barstools designed for long conversations over many cocktails. Upstairs you’ll find a completely different space that transports you to a peachy 80s dream. The service and ambiance was great. Notable dishes were the challah and fluke and fennel. The fries were perfectly crispy and the broccoli was very flavourful. However, the ribeye was average, it lacked flavour but cooked properly yo medium rare.

They knock our socks off every time. Each corner of the menu is worth exploring! The classics, the specials, the wine list and the desserts!!! (This time we had a glutinous rice cake with a brûlée’d top and it was life changing). One of the best and most consistent spots in the city ❤️

I love Burdock, the beers are so great and the space itself wonderful. The service was really lackluster, a trend I'm seeing throughout the city these days unfortunately (but maybe understandably) - no enthusiasm, not consistent, not checking in if the food is good or if we have everything, a general "oh yeah you're still here" vibe. Not something I've experienced at Burdock before and was really excited to show my friend from out of town. Overall a fine, just fine, experience.
