Growing up in Italy, my family cooked at home and had the most extraordinary experiences with ingredients grown in our backyard, paired with the wines my chef/restaurateur stepfather would bring back from regions throughout Italy. I fell in love with food as a child watching my stepfather, once nominated a top chef in Italy, work in restaurant kitchens and floors. Moving to California in 1991 and subsequently to Santa Monica and experiencing the Farmers Market inspired me to start Orto - Italian for “vegetable garden” - where I meld local ingredients and organic herbs grown here at the restaurant to create traditional Italian recipes. A wonderful visit as always. I felt sad to see that it was so quiet and sparse the night we went! It was the fourth night after the fires began and it made me worry about the ripple effects of the fires and how many people would be hurt by this, including restaurants filled with beautiful staff like this. Please go and eat their delicious food and talk with the wonderful people who work there! It would lift everyone’s spirits!

This place is very nice. I loved the atmosphere and the view of Santa Monica Pier. I taken my wife for her birthday she really enjoyed it and love her food. My cousin and our friend as well enjoyed the food. I would go back and bring more friends and Family. Our Server was amazing and very helpful as well. We'll be back.

We were there around 3 pm on Christmas day and the young lady at the front desk was warm, welcoming, and efficient. After checking in early, we only waited a short time for our table. Our server was Joseph and he was also very welcoming and efficient. He made us feel like our business was valuable. He asked numerous times if we needed anything and was prompt to bring whatever was requested. Our chef was Nmemon (spelling??) and he did an excellent job in preparing our food. We come to Benihana's frequently and will continue to do so with employees like Joseph and the front desk hostess. Thanks for an outstanding Christmas dinner.
