The happy hour at Starfish is always a good value. However, my most recent experience was tarnished by a newer system for paying the bill. They have the portable unit that the server brings to the table, which may not be that new for this restaurant. But, it was the suggested tip page which I don't remember seeing before. While it's common to conclude the billing settlement with the tip page, I've always seen the suggested tip presented as something along the lines of 15% - 18% - 22%. So, I assumed something similar with the Starfish system, and just checked the middle box. Well, I then looked, after paying, to the paper copy and realized I'd tipped $20, not 20%. Turns out that their tip suggestions were $15 - $20 - $25. Dollars, not percentages. So, for my $49 meal, their middle suggestion was a 40% tip. My guess is that they are basing their tips on standard dinner menu pricing, not happy hour. However, when I'm willing to eat dinner at 3:30pm to get the better pricing, a suggested tip of 40% is not appreciated.

Celebrating my birthday, hostess was warm and welcoming. Server was superb. Food from Ahi Tower and fried asparagus to my filet and my wife’s Cacio de Pepe was delicious. Gave me a butter cake with ice cream for my birthday. Will definitely go again.

That Black Cod Miso needs to turn into a person so I can marry it and we can move to the south of France where we will have a lovely tomato garden and 3 beautiful children. The spicy tuna crispy rice can be my secret lover that Black Cod Miso catches me with, but is chill and we have a unique but interesting love life with the three of us.

Everything THE RANCH offers is done superbly. The flavors really blend nicely together and the dishes have great dimension. The ambiance is lovely and you can tell a lot of thought was put into curating the entire experience from the decor, choice of furnishings, the food and beverage offerings, etc. This is a fine dining experience, so the price does reflect that. It will be a meal you not only enjoy, but remember.
