Café Berlin has been serving authentic German cuisine on Capitol Hill since 1985. It occupies the ground floor of three townhouses whose front yards serve as Biergarten for outdoor dining. The interior features a small bar and two cozy dining rooms. The restaurant is located within a short walking distance of Union Station and the U.S. Capitol. It draws politicians, congressional staffer, and tourists as well a loyal following of neighborhood residents. The traditional dishes are authentically prepared with lighter touch by chefs with extensive experience in German cuisine. In addition to the regular menu, the restaurant offer seasonally changing menus that feature fresh asparagus in the spring, salads and light fares in the summer, Bavarian dishes during Oktoberfest in the fall, and wild game in the winter. These folks were great and can cook a duck. The meal started with a little parsnip taste from the kitchen with a black truffle and some sort of cream. We followed that with duck wings that were awesome and then had some of the Brussels that came on the foie Gras…awesome. The thing that really stood out though was the fry in the duck breast. They somehow got the fat rendered and kept the meat moist with getting a hard fry on the breading. Yum. The cigarettes and chocolate dessert was also great. Don’t normally leave reviews but this place has some tasty bites right now.

Mochten we het geweten hebben dan waren we de hele week hier komen eten. Dit restaurant waar de beste ervaring op onze hele reis. De bediening was top en zo ook het eten. Een echte aanrader, maar je kan best vooraf reserveren.

The Sovereign was an excellent find for us while visiting DC! At the end of a full day we wanted a nice dinner in the Georgetown area and this place was a gem. Great food (best mussels my wife has had) and delicious drinks (awesome Belgian beer selection) made for an outstanding dinner!
