Tangawizi restaurant in London’s East Twickenham, close to Richmond Bridge, earned the well-heeled locals’ devotion right from the off. The chef is ‘trained by and strongly recommended by Vineet Bhatia’ and that’s saying quite a lot. The dining room is very smart, mood-enhancingly lit in saffron and blackberry with details of beautiful sari fabric inlaid in the tables. Dishes are authentic North Indian, but cutting-edge and contemporary, the way we Londoners like them: the freshest of ingredients, little oil, sparkling flavours. Try the mixed platter of starters to share to really browse the possibilities, then choose something like spicy marinated red snapper in tempura batter served with cheddar and Parmesan risotto, with one of the lovely dahls on the side. The traditionally-clad waitstaff are very attentive and the whole experience a winner.

Our inspiration is the Zeus Faber… John Dory, one of many local fish that can be fished sustainably and from our shores and although it has a wonderful Latin come Greek name it also has a very British name, John Dory. Faber is the Latin word for ‘Smith’ – Like a few other Latin occupational names (e.g. Agricola for farmer, Nauta for sailor). Smith being the most common name in English we decided it sits well with our name as we want to be accessible to all and give everyday people the opportunity to be part of our journey and own the business they work in.What sets us apart is our commitment to working with local fishmongers who run out to the coast each evening to collect day-boat fish and local ingredients. We ate at Min Jiang on Christmas Eve , had Christmas lunch at Canton Blue / Peninsula Hotel , and Ivy Asia on Boxing Day .........................and the winner is Ivy Asia ! The food was more flavourful and the price was better and super relaxed atmosphere .

Good food, but quite a limited menu. I tried the Green Curry with chicken, which was excellent. My wife tried the fermented fish, which is apparently from NE Thailand. It was super hot, with no sauce to help cool it. She loved the flavours, but had to bring half it home, to enjoy with some yoghurt on the side. We will go back there.

I could not have been more delighted to have chosen Stanley's for my son's 21st Birthday lunch. 8 guests chose a large variety of dishes which were all a huge success. The Ribeye steak being a particular favourite.
