We were having a difficult time choosing which restaurant to eat at for our first visit to Edinburgh. First coast was an outstanding restaurant that absolutely blew us away, and the restaurant that welcomed us with a fabulous dinner after our long train ride to Edinburgh.
Blythe had the Monkfish tail- and as Blythe took a bite of her potato, she said - 'this is the best potato I have ever had' - with wide eyed wonder.
The monkfish was meaty and muscular, and incredibly tender. The cauliflower puree was the perfect creamy addition to the succulent fish.
Richard went for an alternative approach, and ordered the Corn Fed Chicken. When he lapped up the pea puree, his face filled with delight, and the crispy chicken skin was revolutionary.
Richard and Blythe enjoy quieter restaurants, and First Coast, yet again, provided this cosy, ambient atmosphere that made us feel incredibly welcome and comfortable.
The Sticky Toffee Pudding and Mango Mousse melted in our mouths.
The staff was very and always responsive, checking up on us regularly. Truly, First Coast is a hidden gem!
There are not too many options so as to overwhelm and confuse you but also not too little options to make you starve- a perfect number of options on the menu.
It was the perfect fine-dining experience : the portions were relatively big and the overall atmosphere was not intimidating at all; yet, the restaurant and the food itself had an elegant touch to it.
We really say this from our hearts that the restaurant is THAT good.
