Founded by former Ziegfield girl Helen Gallagher and the colorful gambler and sports enthusiast Jack Solomon, Gallaghers opened as a speakeasy and steakhouse in 1927. At that time, the height of Prohibition, a good stiff drink and a great steak were hard to find in New York – except, of course, at Gallaghers.

New Yorkers come for the world-class cocktails and incredible steak – prime beef dry-aged for 21 days in Gallaghers’ legendary windowed meat locker. The combination of all-natural dry aging and cooking it to perfection over hickory coals makes for a steak unlike any other found in New York.

Gallaghers’ guests are welcome in a wide variety of attire – from elegant casual to business suits. We respectfully request that you refrain from wearing hats, sports jerseys, tank tops and shorts.

                                                                                        The lunch at Gallagher’s is a bargain. Three courses. Nicely separated tables, excellent waitstaff, and the price is remarkably inexpensive. I usually take some home.

                                                                                        Went for a friend's birthday; 3 of us shared a tomahawk that was delicious, perfectly medium rare and a really generous portion. We easily had 6-8 oz per person. Sides of creamed spinach, charred brussel sprouts, onion rings & fries were also generously portioned and delicious. We also ordered a fun baked Alaska for dessert and it was one of the best baked Alaskas I've ever had; everything was fresh tasting (the cake, the ice cream, etc) and it didn't taste like it had been sitting in a fridge long. They also brought out a little cake for my friend for his bday!

                                                                                        I enjoyed a lovely birthday meal; the food was excellent, and the service was very good. The filet mignon was juicy and tender. Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes were delicious.

                                                                                        Lobster, clams casino, asparagus and wedge were all excellent. Mac and cheese only fair as cheese had too mild a flavor. It was bland. The strip steak was cooked perfectly but was chewier than I expected it would be. Flavor was very good. Service was very good.

                                                                                        Our table wasn’t ready at the time of our reservation, the staff was very apologetic and surprised us with a complimentary appetizer and desert for the delay. Throughout the dinner our waiter was very attentive to our needs. The food as usual was excellent. Each time we come to the city we look forward to a wonderful dinner here.

                                                                                        The Porterhouse steak was outstanding, the service was excellent and the slow jazz playing on the background elevated the atmosphere of this historic restaurant.

                                                                                        We enjoyed our Pre-Theater lunch at Gallagher. The food and service were absolutely perfect! I’d love to try their other entrees, but cannot imagine not getting steak there, so the sliced filet was delicious. We have been there our past two trips to New York and cannot wait to come back!!

                                                                                        Came here Tuesday with my wife , in my entire life I have never experienced such a fantastic restaurant as this one . We are well traveled and been to some amazing restaurants but this by far the most real ( natural) place we have ever eaten in . The barman was on point the waiters were polite informed and courteous, this restaurant isn’t cheap but it was worth every 💸 . Thank you to everyone there that made this an unforgettable experience, Regards Andy/Kay
