Founded by former Ziegfield girl Helen Gallagher and the colorful gambler and sports enthusiast Jack Solomon, Gallaghers opened as a speakeasy and steakhouse in 1927. At that time, the height of Prohibition, a good stiff drink and a great steak were hard to find in New York – except, of course, at Gallaghers.

New Yorkers come for the world-class cocktails and incredible steak – prime beef dry-aged for 21 days in Gallaghers’ legendary windowed meat locker. The combination of all-natural dry aging and cooking it to perfection over hickory coals makes for a steak unlike any other found in New York.

Gallaghers’ guests are welcome in a wide variety of attire – from elegant casual to business suits. We respectfully request that you refrain from wearing hats, sports jerseys, tank tops and shorts.

We were a large party. We were seated very close to our reservation time. The food was excellent. Our waiter accommodated every one of our requests. He was very pleasant and made recommendations according to our needs.

Absolutely amazing!! Food was incredible and the service was the best I’ve had. It would have been quieter but for a loud large table of people, but that didn’t bother us. I’m thinking that’s typical here. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. We will be back!

Second time at this location as we are from out of town and frequent our local Gallaghers in Boca Raton, FL. To say it was underwhelming would be apt. From having to wait 10min past our reservation time to the service being notably slow it was not what we expected. Starting with the service our waiter seemed to have way too many tables and as a party of two it took over an hour just to get our entrees. We ordered one app a new item some bang bang shrimp was good but the breading was a tad soggy. We ordered two steaks along with onion rings and mash potatoes. The steaks were cooked well BUT on my filet it was HARD SEARED on one side which caused the cook to be slightly off. The onions rings were COLD and SOGGY just a disappointment. The mash potatoes were SCREAMING for salt. The service was good but not gallaghers good. We had to ask for a refill of a beverage three times. Suffice to say we will continue to visit our local Gallagher’s but the one in NY? Would be a HARD pass anywhere around the holidays.

We loved the entire experience. All staff were welcoming and provided top notch service. The food was delicious! We didn’t feel rushed. The ambiance was elegant, warm and relaxing. We would come back.

My friend and I shared a porterhouse (cooked, medium) for two, a Caesar salad, creamed spinach and Keylime pie. Everything was delicious and perfect and we had leftover steak and spinach which we got to go. We each also had a glass of Pinot noir it was fantastic and so was the bread and so is the service. It was very crowded and busy, but we were attended to and we were able to hear each other and speak in normal voices not have to shout or anything like that. Perfect.
