Our famous restaurant in Upcountry is a must see for anyone visiting Maui!

Come and experience the renowned Hawaiian hospitality and aloha spirit of Maui at Hali’imaile General Store. With a hundred-year history and over three decades of providing delicious meals to both Upcountry Maui locals and visitors, our restaurant in Hali’imaile is a must-see for anyone visiting Maui. Join us for a taste of the island’s finest cuisine and an opportunity to uncover a piece of Maui’s rich history at our conveniently located restaurant near the town of Makawao and on the road to and from Haleakalā National Park.

Farm-to-table is not a new concept to us! Our restaurant has been promoting and featuring locally sourced produce, seafood, meats and products since 1988. Our dishes are a unique blend of fresh Hawaiian food, local Asian influences and modern preparations.

    Join us at the iconic Hali'imaile General Store for Happy Hour in our bar and front lanai areas . We offer delicious food and drink specials daily from 2:30 - 4:30*. Food options include HGS favorites like our Crab Pizza and Upcountry Salad, as well as a delicious Herb Ricotta & Ceviche of the day. Wash it down with drink specials on select beer, wine and cocktails, including Wendy's champion Tai Mai. Don't forget to save room for our famous Pineapple Upside Down cake, featuring Maui Gold pineapples from right next door. *All Happy Hour food must be ordered no later than 4:30.

    Join the Hali'imaile General Store Ohana for a Christmas Day Buffet. We will be serving an assortment of traditional and local dishes and there'll be something for everyone in the family. The price will be $85.00 for adults and $35.00 for keiki (tax and gratuity are additional). Please note that we will only be serving the buffet on this day and our regular menus will not be available. We look forward to spending this special day with you. Mele Kalikimaka!!!

    Join the Hali'imaile General Store Ohana for our famous Thanksgiving Day Buffet. We will be serving an assortment of traditional Thanksgiving and local dishes and there'll be something for everyone in the family. Larry Golis will also be entertaining everyone with his acoustic guitar and vocals. The price will be $75 for adults and $35 for keiki (tax and gratuity are additional).                                         Wonderful old building with a delicious menu and nice beverages on offer. Our waiter, Joe, was exceptional as were the rest of the staff. Well worth it and a perfect spot to eat prior to our red-eye flight back to North America!

                                        Excellent all around dining experience. Food was excellent (had pork belly bao starter, seafood curry). Portions were generous and both were delicious. Service was impeccable. There was plenty of parking just across the street.

                                        We love Hali'imaile General Store as we live in Kula and it's our favorite restaurant in the Upcountry area. We have noticed the changes in the menu, which is great; however, the new chicken is a little bit of a disappointment - we'd like the former chicken brought back, if possible! One other person in our party had the new teriyaki burger, which he enjoyed...I suppose if someone wanted the regular wagu burger, it could be ordered without the teriyaki sauce and the pineapple...yes? I had the pork shank, which was great!

                                        This is a first class restaurant, well worth the drive from Ka’anapali’i every time we are on Maui. The food is made with care, and every ingredient makes a difference between an above average meal, and an excellent one.

                                        It's a General Store made into a nice restaurant. When it's in season, the outdoor dining with the tradewinds blowing the scent of wildflowers across your table is delightful. The staff is super; four glasses in, I found I couldn't drink my way to the bottom of an iced tea. The fish of the day is locally caught. When it was Sea Bass, it was the best dish that I had in a week of daily visits. The Maui Onion Soup tasted like the kind I had in Paris. The Crab Pizza is a flat bread with a blended cheese+crab mix. Pure comfort food, great for kids. The Coconut Seafood Curry was the surprise winner. The spices didn't overpower. The taste of the "local catch" came through. It was filling but not heavy, leaving room for: Chocolate Cremeux was the standout in the desserts, super rich and chocolatey/caramelly. This place is a treat.

                                        We’ve been coming here for years and it never disappoints. I have the Napoleon Sushi always, and it’s amazing. Tried a non-alcoholic Gingersnap drink and was very impressed at the flavor. Couldn’t believe the complexity of the ginger and lime and all the other subtleties. What a treat! A happy return and have to say I look forward to our return!

                                        It's been a while since my last visit. They have memorable desserts. Reservations made through open table. The front desk manage the tables very closely and warms up gradually. Upon arrival and early, I was brought to a nice table by the window. It was raining hard and trade winds were kicking up a storm on my way. It didn't dampen the spirit at the restaurant or dining experience. My wait person, Dale made it known he's been around for over 17 years and has the answers. He provided a few recommendations on my request. I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich thinking I would have room for dessert. Probably not the best choice. lol The chicken was nicely battered and fried and retained moisture. The accomplices French fries were nicely crispy and crunchy. The star of any meal, I ordered the chocolate crememeux despite Dale's recommendation for the prize winner upside down pineapple cake. I have had plenty chocolate cake lately. Hence my regret. It was good but something different may have need refreshing. My bad. The service was attentive from the wait person and madam maltre de. They frequently checked in and refilled my tea. Always a pleasant dining experience.
