Come and experience the renowned Hawaiian hospitality and aloha spirit of Maui at Hali’imaile General Store. With a hundred-year history and over three decades of providing delicious meals to both Upcountry Maui locals and visitors, our restaurant in Hali’imaile is a must-see for anyone visiting Maui. Join us for a taste of the island’s finest cuisine and an opportunity to uncover a piece of Maui’s rich history at our conveniently located restaurant near the town of Makawao and on the road to and from Haleakalā National Park.

Farm-to-table is not a new concept to us! Our restaurant has been promoting and featuring locally sourced produce, seafood, meats and products since 1988. Our dishes are a unique blend of fresh Hawaiian food, local Asian influences and modern preparations.

The price will be $75.00 for adults and $35.00 for keiki (tax and gratuity are additional).     Really enjoyed the onion soup. The Braised Short ribs were very good too. Gotta try the Lemongrass Ginger Frost outstanding with coconut.

    Have enjoyed lunch while in Maui at the Gen. store for many years. We had a vegetarian with us -few options for him. His tofu burger missed the mark. The enchilada pie special served yesterday (March 26th) was excellent per my husband, as was the Mahi.

    The last few times we have been were definitely off. Food really well done (I do still miss lamb chops though). Attentive wait staff. This place used to be one our very favorites so this visit was certainly good enough to bring me back again.

    The best upcountry restaurant with exceptional culinary delights and highly professional staff. Warm, inviting, and friendly with a wonderful atmosphere of hospitality. Our first choice upcountry since Bev began this delicious legacy! The recent takeover has kept the authenticity of Maui Pacific Rim cuisine fresh and onolicious! Mahalo nui loa all around for our neighborhood gem! (Ian was our waiter and this young man could work in a Michelin 3 Star restaurant! We were very impressed!)

    We used to eat here frequently when Bev Gannon owned the restaurant and it featured some of her special dishes. We've waited a while to return, giving the new ownership a chance to create its own flavor. The menu is similar with a few dishes that are carry over. The owner made a point of coming by our table multiple times to ask how it was and to say that Bev was just there the night before and raved about the place. Maybe so, but it might have also been story. The Sashimi Tower is a carry over and slightly different, but still an excellent dish and unique. It is large enough for a meal if you're a light eater. The others at our table tried some of the newer dishes and were pleased. I went for the traditional Paniolo Ribs, which I compared to what the original restaurant served. The ribs were tender and the meat fell off the fork, they were slathered in a BBQ that took away some of the smoked flavor, but made your fingers lickable. The slaw is a vinegar based slaw and was good, had just a bit of vinegar nip to it, but had so much juice that it spread on the plate into the ribs and the mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were garlic mashed, but appeared on the plate as if they were baby food, they were so pureed and had a limited flavor or garlic to them. Would not recommend having them and asking for French fries instead. The dessert menu was typical of most of the restaurants, missing was the famous macadamia nut chocolate tort they were known for. The wine list is very basic restaurant wine list with a range of $60 to over $100 and the corkage fee is $35. Will we return, most likely, would we recommend it, yes, with certain recommendations. Though we had reservations, there were plenty of tables at 7:00 PM still available. Must admit we did miss some of Bev's touches in the food.

    Had a reservation for the third Friday so we could enjoy the Hali'imaile night market before. Great experience! The food was outstanding-I had the prime rib. Definitely go here for a great meal!

    The Chinese chopped chicken salad & ribs we're outstanding. Their crab pizza appetizer is alwats a favorite requirement!Our server has been there for years & he is a gem! Be sure to take a light jacket as it is cooler upcountry & a light shower is possible. Don't neglect to enjoy Makawoa while you're so close.

    Probably my favorite restaurant on Maui. Everything is excellent. We went twice this last trip. It’s close to the airport which is convenient for one last amazing meal on your way home if you are flying. Their pineapple upside cake is the best on the island hands down!!
