Hugo's Frog Bar & Fish House opened its doors in February 1997 in the heart of Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood, next to sister restaurant Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse. Over 20 years after owners Hugo Ralli and Steve Lombardo set out to open the city's finest seafood restaurant, Hugo's continues to be the destination for premier east and west coast oysters, crudos, frog legs, lobster and seasonal fish and shellfish, in addition to Gibsons Prime Angus and Gibsons Grassfed Australian steaks. An extensive wine list, classic cocktail list and selection of impressive signature desserts accompany the menu of fresh seafood, steaks and chops. Excellent as usual. Service was impeccable and food was prepared thoughtfully and to our high expectations. It was our anniversary dinner and the complimentary dessert made a strong impression on us. We will be back regularly.

This was our second time dining at Hugo’s. We enjoyed our first experience so much that we decided to return to celebrate the birthdays of 2 people in our party. Appetizers we ordered were good, although the goat cheese appetizer could use slightly more cheese added to it. The steak entrees ordered by 2 people in our party was excellent. However, the captain’s platter I ordered to share with a family member was subpar. The seafood was obviously precooked and refrigerated for quite some time. It was obviously not freshly prepared. The amount of seafood served for the cost of the platter was disproportionate. In addition, some of the seafood served was raw, which was not specified on the menu. Huge mistake ordering the captain’s platter. Not worth the cost for the quality and quantity of seafood. Also, we indicated on our open table reservations that we were celebrating the birthdays of 2 people in our party. No acknowledgement whatsoever by the restaurant or wait staff of our guests special day. Very disappointed with Hugo’s, especially since the cost of our bill was just under $450.00 including gratuity for 4 adults.

Hugo’s never disappoints. The whole operation is done smoothly, from checking in to receiving your meal. The menu is excellent. I had the old standby fish & chips, and it’s always great. My wife had the scallops and they were great also. The service is unobtrusive, but the servers all seem to be there when wanted. Be aware that on Fri and Sat nights, both the bar area and restaurant are very crowded and the noise level goes way up.

While our dinner and service was excellent, it was a bit frustrating as it was so loud we could not carry out a conversation. I literally could not hear people sitting across the table from me. We were seated near two larger parties. Maybe put larger parties in the back room so that other patrons can enjoy their dinner without shouting.
