J. Alexander's is a contemporary American restaurant, known for its wood-fired cuisine. Our core philosophy is to provide you with the highest possible quality dining experience. The menu features a wide selection of American classics including prime rib of beef, steaks, fresh seafood, sandwiches and entrée salads as well as daily chef recommendations.     We have in the past enjoyed our meals at both restaurants without any complaints. Our last visit however, was not to the standards in the past. Our Prime rib dinner was a struggle to say the least. We were given a serrated knife to cut our meat not a a steak knife. It was like sawing a piece of wood. After our meal the manager did talk with us and a certificate to cover a portion of our meal cost. The price of our meal along with the service made this a very disapointing anniversary dinner.

    I would recommend J.Alexanders but not based on this experience. Here are the reasons why: 1) We indicated on our reservation that we were celebrating a birthday but it was never acknowledged by the host or server. 2) The service was slow and almost never saw our server - when we did, he was not friendly at all. 3) There was a problem with my ribeye being tough so I asked to exchange it with another one. The manager came out and explained (understandably) that if I got another ribeye, it would be cut from the same piece of beef so recommended I get something different. However, my new order must have been lost because my husband finished his meal and we still hadn't seen or heard from our server. Finally we asked another server to find our waiter. When he returned, we let him know that we had decided to not wait any longer for the new order. He never apologized for or acknowledged the poor service. He promptly brought the bill but we weren't thanked for our patience or patronage. Because we've dined here many times before, we know this is not a typical experience, but it will probably be a while before we are willing to try it again.

    Service and environment was good. The food vs value was extremely poor. Food was over salted, walleye special was dried out and broccoli tasted like fish. Will not be going back.

    I ordered the Filet with Baked Potato and my dining companion order Fish Tacos (grilled). My filet was great, perfectly medium temperature. My companion would have rather had fried fish as the grilled were just okay. Ambiance was disturbing as there was a approximately 2 year old who would at unpredictable times let out a shrill scream. No employee spoke to the family, but it was quite disturbing for all of us. It won't stop us from coming back, as I'm sure the staff didn't want to offend the family, but something should have been done.

    Even though the waiter was clearly busy he took the time to see our appetizer was burnt before bringing it out and checked in multiple time to refill water glasses and check on us. The Filet medallion meal and salmon dish was spectacular. The ambience of the restaurant was exactly what we were looking for you can hear yourself talk but also has a fun upbeat atmosphere for a great night out.

    Had the Maui ribeye and my wife had the filet. It definitely could have been better and was not on par with past trips. We had an avacado bomb which was great. Overall not even close to being worth $100, more like $50. Hope our next trip we be better if we decide to try it again.
