I made a reservation for our wedding anniversary celebration at this restaurant, based on the exceptional experiences my husband and I had last year for both our birthdays. Unfortunately, our visit this time was quite different from the memorable experiences we had previously.
I understand that economic challenges might impact some offerings, such as sparkling wine, but we were surprised to not receive it as part of the celebration, as we had during our birthdays. Additionally, we weren’t greeted or acknowledged for our special day. Unlike in August, where we had a thoughtful "happy anniversary" message written on our desserts, this time there was no special touch, which made the evening feel much less celebratory.
As for the food, we were disappointed with the Wagyu A-5 sushi. The texture and taste were not as impressive as the first time we had it. It arrived cold, almost as if the meat had just been defrosted, and unlike before, it wasn't flamed to give that signature grill flavor. It didn’t live up to the exceptional quality we remembered.
On a positive note, many of the dishes we’ve always enjoyed since our first visit were still good as always. The 56-piece sashimi, root wasabi, Wagyu Ishi Yaki, miso soup, and yuzu mango cheesecake were all as delicious as we remembered. We also enjoyed a bottle of Suigei Drunken Whale sake, which we always order and have never been disappointed by. However, we did find that the saltwater eel didn’t taste as fresh this time.
We also tried a few new dishes. The pork gyoza was a pleasant surprise, and the matchamisu was decent, though not as impressive as some of the other desserts we’ve had here.
While we understand that every visit can vary, this experience felt far from the high standard we had come to expect from this restaurant. We hope to return in the future and revisit the memorable dining experiences we’ve had in the past.
