A Salt Lake City icon, Kyoto has delighted literally generations of diners. This cozy restaurant gives the feel of a bit of Kyoto Japan in the Rocky Mountains. Kyoto specializes in authentic Japanese cuisine. House favorites include the Ebi Tempura and Steak Teriyaki. Kyoto is also known for its Sushi Bar. Patrons may either dine at the Sushi Bar or order sushi from a Japanese style booth.

Kyoto Japanese Restaurant was opened by Sam & Yoshiko Tada in 1984. Sam (a native of Kyoto Japan) brought his culinary skills & Yoshiko managed the accounting and service. Both Sam & Yoshiko still participate in the day to day operations of Kyoto.

My friends and I were celebrating 2 of 3 Birthdays! We had a wonderful celebration in every aspect! We loved all the food we ordered, 2 appetitizers and the 3 sushi rolls. My friends said it was the best sushi they’ve ever had. Portions were generous. The ambiance was lovely, from the decor, the sound, and the warm server. They brought us homemade Mango Icecream for our Birthday desert. When we were finished with the food, we stayed to open gifts. A wonderful celebration. Absolutely will go back. Thank you so much for adding to our celebration!

We brought four friends here who are from out of town and they were fascinated. Everything we ordered (two sushi rolls, steak, sukiyaki, poke don, tempura, miso, teriyaki chicken, sake) was amazing. We sat at one of the cool authentic booths there where you take off your shoes to sit. The waitress burned her hand on the sukiyaki as she was delivering it, and it spilled on one of our shoes. She was so apologetic and tried to clean it but it will need a more thorough washing. But we were more concerned about her hand because it was very, very hot. If you're going for the first time, the sukiyaki (we like the beef) is unreal. We also like the mai zuru and geisha rolls. Such a great meal and great experience for the price.

The food is good, local owner. Staff is so friendly, great with gluten free. Cute sushi bar, friendly chefs at sushi bar

Perhaps Salt Lake’s most traditional Japanese restaurant, both in terms of ambiance (a building that evokes Japanese architecture with sunken seating and kimono clad staff) and menu. Kyoto has been a fixture for decades, and it still remains a great choice, especially for special occasions. The food remains consistently good and there is a wide enough range of options to satisfy diners who want different types of meals, such as teriyaki versus tempura versus sushi.

The service was attentive. The food was delicious. We had to replace one appetizer and they did with no fuzz. The kept our table neat and uncluttered as the meal evolved. The prize was modest. Great place!

The food and restaurant were great. It was freezing in there though. I had to go get a blanket out of my car because I was so uncomfortable. Other than that everything was great.

Our server made my granddaughters first Japanese food experience really special. We did not order everything at once and tried many things on the menu over several hours. We will definitely go again! We all had a blast!
