Tucked away in a brownstone on the Upper West Side, La Boite en Bois has been a favorite among diners since 1985. Family owned and operated, our attentive and well-trained staff will be sure to provide you with a memorable experience. As seen on Seinfeld, we are a short walk from Central Park, Lincoln Center, NYC Ballet, and the Metropolitan Opera.

With its rustic ambiance, diners are made to feel as though they are in a bistro in the French countryside. Serving classics from Escargot to Salmon to Roasted Duck to Mussels, you will be delighted with our extensive selections. We serve lunch everyday, with a variety of salads, soups, panini, and classic French dishes, such as Croque Monsieur, Seafood Crepes and Onion Soup. Come Saturday and Sunday for our Brunch, and enjoy Eggs Benedict, French Toast or a La Boite Burger.

Wonderful and lively spot. Generous portions of delicious food. Only negative were the fries. They are basically McDonalds but not as good. Too thin not hot enough and not like France. You measure a French bistro by fries, steak, duck, coq au vin and a couple other items but fries are sub par here. The steak au poivre wsd delicious, tender and very good. Other items as well as drink pours were excellent.

It was an extraordinary experience. I bought my partner who knows French culinary excellence to a place I used to visit when I lived in the neighborhood. I was so glad to see it alive. Excellent on all counts except that it was packed . The onion soup, duck, and fish stew were all pronounced true French. We'll definitely return and recommend this little treasure.

La Boite en Bois is a long time neighborhood place for very traditional French fare, but it gets overrun between 5-7:30pm with Lincoln Center show goers. That's when the loud talking, brusque service and heightened level of anxiety about making your curtain prevail. Then it calms... Otherwise, very nice and laid back, affordable French without wild flavors or sauces. Nice dessert selection. Not decadent in the least.

We were going to a concert at Alice Tully Hall - so we chose this restaurant because it had a pre-theater time slot available and we all love French food. We all enjoyed our food selections: Endive, goat cheese & beet salad, Crab cake with side salad (appetizer portion) as appetizers. I was somewhat underwhelmed by the crab cake - but I'm from Maryland (home of crab) so I have an extraordinarily high standard when it comes to crab cakes. Beef bourguignon with mashed potatoes, House-made mushroom ravioli, Seafood crepes as main dishes were all fabulous. My husband and I both enjoyed the Napa Valley Chardonnay; our friend enjoyed the Cotes du Rhone. I found the creme brulee to be a little less creamy and custard-y than I have come to expect...but I ate every morsel.
