Winner Best Restaurant in March 2018!

Opened in 1980, La Ripaille is one of the oldest restaurants in West Village. Some of the regulars have been coming for as long as 25 years. We want everyone to feel welcome here, whether it’s the celebrities who frequent, the children for whom we provide games & crayons, or the people who live in the Village.

The owner, Alain Laurent, is integral in the day-to-day processes of La Ripaille. He daily scours the market for the freshest produce, often choosing the day’s specials based on his finds. This keeps the specials seasonal & unique. He decorates the ever changing wine list with the best wines available. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with a terrace for the summer & a fireplace in the back for the winter. The candlelit tables light up French posters and paintings & fresh flowers decorate each table. For a taste of history and delicious French cuisine, visit La Ripaille. We have a seat just for you.

Very beautiful Restaurant with a really kind owner. The food quality is fantastic. Just the amount of food is too low for the high price. Service is good, but we had to wait like 10-15 mins just to get the menu. All over, it’s a very nice and cozy place. One thing that I didn’t like is, that I had to pay 40$ just for the reservation (but I don’t know if it’s from open table or the restaurant).

My husband and I have been going to La Ripaille for Christmas Eve dinner for a number of years. We had a conflict that night this year, so we decided to go on the Winter Solstice instead so that we didn't skip a year of tradition and it was perfect. The staff are all friendly and professional and they clearly take pride in their work. The owner, Alain, is the ultimate host. He stops by every table, engages his guests in jovial conversation and isn't above clearing plates or getting guests water. He clearly loves his restaurant -- as do we.

Ripaille has been amazingly consistent for decades. Excellent, truly classic French cuisine, not too fancy, but with elegant touches. The owner mingles with the guests, providing an authentic French atmosphere. The space is a little tight, which is also authentic. Nice music. Polite servers. Good wine at good prices.

This is a favorite, and well worth the trip from uptown. Everyone deserves to retire, but it breaks my heart that this gem may soon be a fond memory. Amazing food, wonderful ambience. Skip the trip to Paris and head for Hudson Street.

We had beautifully presented fresh-tasting and delicious appetizers, entrees, and desserts last weekend! Staff are thoughtful, efficient, and charming. Treat yourself to a wonderful evening at La Ripaille.
