It was the 1930s and Six Mile and Conant was like any street corner in Detroit… people walking to the market, neighbors helping neighbors, and friends meeting at the local gathering spot now known as Buddy’s. Buddy’s existed as a “blind pig,” skirting the State and Federal laws that governed the on-site sale and usage of alcohol. Booze was available there. The owner at the time was August “Gus” Guerra.

Our authentic BBQ starts in a live-wood smoker stoked with genuine hickory logs. Our pitmasters hand-rub the meats with a custom blend of spices and cook for hours to extract the natural flavors. Selden Standard’s fare features flavors born in local farms, captured at the peak of the season, prepared in their wood-fired oven, and served small plates-style in shareable portions.     What a great location and a fine menu. Interesting choices on the menu and the food was tasty. The server was perfect amount of attentive and leaving us alone too. I wish the wine list was a little more robust, especially by the glass. We ended up with a bottle, but I found the choices not as interesting as I hoped. Also, I asked they make it special for a birthday and they did this! And you can't beat this location, especially at the holiday season!

    Our advice is: dont put too much effort on deciding, as everything is absolutely amazing! We've been coming here everytime we came to Detroit since 2022 and we've seen our share of new dishes everytime... and tried them. No regrets whatsoever!

    Food and Service were excellent. We went for lunch on a Wednesday, and it was crowded, Glad we had an Open Table reservation. My wife had the Grilled Shrimp appetizer as her main and I got the Diavola Pizza (No. 8) as my main. They were both great and large enough for us to both have a meal for take home. We finished up with the Pumpkin Gelato as perfect desert for this time of year. Our Server, Katherine F, was outstanding.

    First time experiencing Sexy Steak and I have to admit, it was everything that I heard. Haley was our server and she had great attentiveness, conversation and social awareness!!! My husband absolutely LOVED his Steak and preparing my salad FRESH in front of me was a game changer… we will be back!!
