General Public is inspired by trying to imagine what an upscale English pub would be if it had the heart of an American brasserie (and was open 11 to 11). It’s also going to signal a little bit of steakhouse, but not too much. And finally, it will look behind itself at the Black Hoof, which you will see reflected in James Santon’s menu here and there. In terms of vibe, the main floor is ‘everything’s gone green’, with lush comfortable banquette seating, warm wood, and barstools designed for long conversations over many cocktails. Upstairs you’ll find a completely different space that transports you to a peachy 80s dream. Somehow these two halves make perfect sense, and complement each other in a seamless conversation, where neither wins the argument, but you really do have to see it! See you soon!

    My spouse and I had the pleasure of dining at “Carnival” yesterday to celebrate my birthday. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with exceptional warmth and hospitality that truly sets this place apart from any other restaurant in town. Having visited several renowned establishments, none come close to matching the level of care, taste, and experience we received here. Special thanks to Mr. Dev for making every moment unforgettable. We enjoyed outstanding Mojitos, Inside Out Vada Pav, Paneer Tikka, Duet Curry Malai Kofta, Naan, and the decadent 3-Tier Gulab Jamun Rabri dessert.     Great experience from the get. Sat at the bar and served by the bartender, Joe. Very personable and navigated me through the menu very well. It was quiet in the restaurant when I got there and half way through the place was packed. The pork secreto was perfect along with the shishitos. Finished the night with the basque cake which is a must. I have been following this restaurant on Instagram since 2013, it’s my first time to Toronto so I had to stop. Cannot wait to get back here!
