Hy's Calgary is a modern rendition of the classic steakhouse tradition. Located inside the Westley Hotel in the heart of Downtown Calgary, Fonda Fora is an exciting new contemporary Mexican restaurant brought to you by the folks at Thank You Hospitality. Food and Beverage Magazine 30 under 30 winner, Chef Emilio Montenegro has crafted a menu based on his upbringing in Northern Mexico and his journey in kitchens across the world. Much of our concept is based around the heirloom corn of Mexico. We import four types of corn from a collective of heirloom farms in Mexico in order to provide the best product we can. We process this corn from raw and turn it into masa for dishes all across our menu, like our Sope, Tamal, and of course, Tortillas. There is a saying in Mexico that we live by at Fonda Fora: "Sin maiz no hay pais," meaning without corn, there is no country. Maiz is the lifeblood of Mexican cuisine, and we are excited to present it to you as it should be.

    Another great experience at the keg. Although the steaks were not up to par and the veggies were overcooked. The service from Mandy was amazing.

    This was a surprise. It is a well established place, but nailing that tomahawk to perfection was a hugely welcoming surprise. Best tomahawk ever, and not only in Calgary. I guess four day marinading and other magic must take place, still we treasured every bite. Broccolini and mushrooms were great as the sides; stake tartar was perfectly balanced; the salmon crudo had a beautifully balanced marinade but was a touch off. The tying part for it was Tasha, she was fantastic, full of energy, leaving us with the image of our new best place to go to! Thank you all.

    We chose Hy's to celebrate a special occasion and were not disappointed! The food was delicious, our server (Dino) was outstanding, and the ambiance was great with live music playing in the restaurant. We elected to go with some of the tableside-created dishes and they were not only delicious but added some additional interest to our meal. This is definitely a place we will return to for special occasions.
