A nomadic group of shepherds who created and nurtured the roots of Hellenic cooking as we know it. Straying from the tried-and-true island cuisine, we're rediscovering Greek fare sourced from rural mountains, lakes and villages of Central and Northern Greece.Bar Vlaha captures the true soul of Greek cooking with rustic and nomadic traditions using charcoal and open fire gastra techniques. Locally sourced, regional and seasonal ingredients are combined with the warmth of old-world hospitality to bring the roots of Greek culture to Brookline.

Originally opened in 2005, Garrett Harker’s flagship restaurant has reopened its doors just up Beacon St. only three blocks from its original location. Eastern Standard continues to offer seasonally focused New England interpretations of classic brasserie fare, including raw bar and charcuterie, nostalgic favorites like steak tartare, baked rigatoni, steak frites, and butterscotch bread pudding, and some new soon-to-be-instant-classic dishes.     A lovely Thanksgiving dinner with my husband and daughter. Wonderful food options that were delicious. Service was excellent. This was our first experience at the “new” ES. Happy you’re back and we’ll be back!

    Thanksgiving dinner was memorable. We ordered three of the main courses: turkey, venison, and steak. Everything was cooked to perfection and delicious. The suggested wine pairing went well with the dishes. Service was great, and the maïtre D made us feel truly at home. We were lucky to get the room with the gas fireplace--all in all a delicious and cozy experience. The restaurant made us feel like family!

    Bar Vlaha was absolutely delicious! While being high-end cuisine, it had a very homestyle feel to it. The food was hearty and tasty, not intimidating. Would highly recommend!

    What a wonderful way to start a Sunday. The food that was ordered was excellent, well cooked, looking good on the plate, and delicious. A lovely combination of items on the main course that we ordered, that was not big but had wonderful component parts. The service was excellent. There were many other intriguing items the menu as well. Who could ask for anything more.
