A legendary hangout in North Beach since it opened in 1919, and even more so from the 1980's onward when Jeanette Etheredge took over Tosca. Locals including Willie Brown, Lars Ulrich and Francis Ford Coppola were regular fixtures, Hunter S Thompson wrote his column for the SF Examiner in the corner booth, Bono, Lauren Hutton, and Mikhail Baryshnikov played pool in the back room, singing Opera and drinking Tosca House Cappuccinos. When Restaurateur Anna Weinberg and Interior Designer Ken Fulk heard Tosca Cafe was closing they joined forces to save it. As the new owners and passionate fans of the original establishment their goal was to return Tosca to its rightful place as a San Francisco institution. Amazing dinner at China Live. We checked in early and got sat at the time of our reservation. Our server was incredible. The timing of our plates was perfect. Will be going again!

Perfect dinner - delicious pasta, fish and burger meals thoroughly enjoyed by our party of 3. The service by our waiter Dickie was professional, delightful, attentive with fun humor too. His back up crew was efficient in serving as well as clearing. We had a most enjoyable evening at this great old time San Francisco restaurant and we look forward to returning hopefully soon.

We were back for the first time since reopening. NBR is a SF favorite for us. We have been coming here for years. The remodel is lovely. Samuel, our server was charming and gracious…service was impeccable! Our only complaint was the BLARING, OUT OF CHARACTER MUSIC…felt like we were in a disco and not a tasteful restaurant! We asked the manager to address the music and he said it was the owner’s prerogative to pick the music and not his which was a rather flip response…nothing changed and we could hardly hear ourselves talk!
