Melbourne Hwaro Korean BBQ is a place where one can fully enjoy that authentic Korean taste. Located in the CBD the restaurant is always full, even on the weekdays, as the smell of the BBQ floats down from the terrance stopping people in their tracks. Just like mother used to makeTaste is something Hwaro is particular about. Taste is what owner and chef Eunsook Kim is mostly concerned with. Her dignified and somber character, reminds many people of their own mothers. Kim herself is essential to Hwaro. The preparations for all the meat and sauce available at Hwaro are handled by Kim alone. This includes supervision of the slicing of the Karubi (boneless short ribs), and preparation of the 23 different ingredients* needed for the hot pepper Sangyu Pusaru seasoning. Nearly all of the seasonings lined up on the tables are Kim's own creations.

Doju 〜 a combination of Head Chef/Owner Mika Chae’s hometown Jeollanam-do and Meju, a fermented, Korean soybean block. Meju is the first step for making a number of Korean dishes like doenjang (Korean miso), ganjang (soy sauce) and gochujang (chilli paste). Since Doju is Mika’s first restaurant, Meju is perfectly incorporated into the name and sets the scene for meaningful, passionate food.

Paying tribute to its lively past, Alexander Bar is named after the original owner of the hotel first built on the site in the 1880s. This was reincarnated in 1926 as The Hotel Alexander. Alexander Bar is now the elegant ground floor attraction at The Savoy Hotel Little Collins, infused with a rich history.     Very good food, maybe a little pricier than other similar restaurants. Great service - staff helped to ensure that our food was barbecued just right. Maybe could have been a wider selection of accompaniments to the meat. Overall, very happy with the whole experience and would go again.

    We attended prior to a concert at Marvel Stadium. We booked ahead( a straight forward process using the website) and arrived slightly early. The place was busy but extremely organised and well staffed. Our orders were delivered promptly and the food was exactly as described. We therefore had a stress free and pleasant dinner leaving in plenty of time for our concert. It is not the place for an intimate dinner and chat, but ideal if you want good food presented on time and with efficient and friendly service.

    Highly Recommend! Super convenient to Marvel Stadium & Southern Cross Train Station - great for before/after footy/concert etc. Yummy delicious food! We shared plates between us to try lots & loved everything! Spring rolls, satay skewers, dumplings, pork belly (amazing) stir fried vegies! The only thing which is out of their control is the toilets, they are separate down a hallway part of building next door & had barely any paper left (they explained they are not theirs & are cleaned by an external company)!
