Mertens Prime, located in the historic 1914 New Hotel Mertens lobby in Grand Rapids, offers locally sourced, in-house hand-cut steaks, chops, and unique takes on classics. Seafood focused, with good wine and champagne selection. Only a couple of smaller steak options. Better service than the Chop House or Ruth Chris nearby.

We were in from out of town and thoroughly enjoyed our time at Scholar. The ambiance, we sat in the lower level, was perfect. Beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Our food was wonderful. We had the flatbread, crab cakes and ribeye with scallops and loved it all. Service was great!

Love the decor and having different rooms to keep the noise at an acceptable level. Loved the Huaraches With Morita Falda appetizers and will definitely be back for more! The carne asada melted in the mouth! The flourless chocolate torte was the perfect ending...best I've had - rich taste and not dry like so many tortes I've had. We will be returning soon!
