A nomadic group of shepherds who created and nurtured the roots of Hellenic cooking as we know it. Straying from the tried-and-true island cuisine, we're rediscovering Greek fare sourced from rural mountains, lakes and villages of Central and Northern Greece.Bar Vlaha captures the true soul of Greek cooking with rustic and nomadic traditions using charcoal and open fire gastra techniques. Locally sourced, regional and seasonal ingredients are combined with the warmth of old-world hospitality to bring the roots of Greek culture to Brookline.

Originally opened in 2005, Garrett Harker’s flagship restaurant has reopened its doors just up Beacon St. only three blocks from its original location. Eastern Standard continues to offer seasonally focused New England interpretations of classic brasserie fare, including raw bar and charcuterie, nostalgic favorites like steak tartare, baked rigatoni, steak frites, and butterscotch bread pudding, and some new soon-to-be-instant-classic dishes. Our two-story fish emporium elevates the 40-year legacy of our original location in Chestnut Hill (a few doors down from where we are now).     We had a great experience. Appreciated the good table, service, etc. All was very good. It was very busy so it took time for our meals to be served but i did feel that was due to how busy it was. Thank you for the lovely evening.

    Over the years I’ve come to just expect great hospitality from this place …wherever it’s location ..and tonight was no exception…the smallest of reservation snafus handles with aplomb and courtesy and then just great service to make it not mean a thing. Food was great as always…always will come back!

    We had an amazing experience at Bar Vlaha last night. The place is charming, the food absolutely fabulous, waitstaff knowledgeable and helpful. We had the bread with three different spreads, each better than the next. The mushroom appetiser was spectacular. Entrees of lamb, and wild boar were amazing. An assortment of desserts was delightful. Could not have had a better night. We cannot wait to return.
