In the 1950s, The Speckled Trout was a place to stop and fill up your gas tank. Now, you can fill up on fresh mountain trout, soup beans, and hoecakes and wash it down with local farm beer or fresh rosé. Reid’s Cafe is located in beautiful Sugar Mountain, NC. We love the intentional, the specific, and the well-cared-for. We work closely with our local farms and purveyors to curate fresh, seasonal menus that feature regionally sourced meats, a rotation of fresh oysters and select seafood. All of our breads, pastas, and pastries are prepared in-house daily. Our Bar offers local beers, seasonal craft cocktails, and a well chosen wine selection. We are currently operating under all Covid-19 restrictions and following all CDC and local guidelines. The health and safety of our guests and our staff is our #1 priority. Another outstanding experience at the Gamekeeper. Service and food were top notch. While this isn’t a kid’s restaurant, my 8 year old made his first trip on this visit. He loved the emu and the mixed game grill. In his words “they should give an award to whoever cooked this bird”.

Passing through, this seemed like an interesting place to go for lunch. Trout dominates the menu -- 100% fine for us. I enjoyed smoked trout with gouda grits, partner took her trout on a kale salad -- both were 100% happily consumed to the bottom of the plate. We weren't drinking for lunch, but there is plenty of beer and wine for those looking for those options. Definitely would love to try the place again for dinner when we visit next.
