Named for the year that Dr. John Anderson purchased the land upon which the resort now stands, 1796 Room has now been re-launched as a signature steak and chophouse, serving steaks, chops, fish and poultry of the highest quality. 1796 uses only the highest quality 21-day aged USDA prime beef. Our meats are prepared at 1700° on our infrared broiler ensuring juiciness, tenderness and flavor. All entrées are served with our signature grilled artichoke, and “shared” side dishes are available à la carte along with a tasty dessert selection freshly prepared in-house by our pastry team.     Not what I expected. Service was efficient and friendly, my Manhattan cocktail was excellent, then started with the ceasar salad that was dumped on a plate and tasted like it came from an airport. Pasta with clams was ok but would not order it again, no passion in the preparation or presentation. This place has all the potential to be great, but missing the magic. A mediocre experience at best.

    We had another excellent dining experience at The 1796 Room. This time we brought friends with us from Philadelphia and they agreed they had the best steaks ever! I once again enjoyed the crab cakes. We love the carrots and spinach and got those again. This time we ended our meal with carrot cake. Wow!!! Service was once again outstanding. We look forward to returning again in the future and bringing more friends.

    I emailed the restaurant about one of us having celiac and Richie the chef replied that he would take care of us. Once at the restaurant, our waiter Ryan confirmed with the kitchen as to which options were gluten free. These efforts helped to make a great evening. Big Thanks to Nittany Lion Inn.
