The Hartwood Restaurant enjoys a rich history. The originally the headquarters of the Harmar Coal Company. Purchased in 1988, the building was transformed into retail space, including antiques and a bookstore. Café tables were soon added amongst the book shelves, Over the years, The Hartwood Restaurant has evolved into a charming and unique place for meals, drinks, and events. The elegant dining rooms and a pub featuring hand-tooled woodwork and stained glass artwork.The Hartwood also features outdoor dining in a garden-like atmosphere, complete with a wood burning fireplace. The pasta dishes were superb, as was the salad with lump crab meat and avocado. The panini, however, was disappointing. The bread was two slabs of thick, Texas-style bread, and the filling was very thick. Along with the Italian meats and cheese, there was shredded lettuce. If it was cooked on a Panini Press, the chef/cook forgot to close and press it. Obviously, whoever made the Panini has never been to Italy.
