Built in 1591, the Tolbooth Tavern in Edinburgh was formerly part of the original Canongate Tolbooth. This medieval building was used to divide the Royal Burgh of Edinburgh and Canongate.     We arrived early and had a cocktail at the bar. The bartender was helpful and chatty and we had a great start to the meal with some lovely drinks. We weren’t rushed from the bar and were shown our table. We were given water and plenty of time to review the menu and make our decisions. The food was lovely and drinks were good too. Service was friendly and professional and we at no time felt rushed. This is one of our favourite restaurants and it fully met our expectations again today.

    Not enough superlatives- I was dubious when the ceviche came out last but it was a stroke of genius by the chef - a wonderful palate cleanser to end the small plate selection perfectly - cannot recommend enough - would definitely return!

    Fantastic. Cannot fault my meal here. Steak was beautifully cooked, sides and starters were delicious. Staff were incredible friendly and couldn’t do enough for us Will definitely be back

    Absolutely loved Tolbooth Tavern. The staff are incredibly friendly and the food totally amazing. The steak pie is to die for. The tavern is so lovely with its quirky charm. We loved every second. Thankyou everyone.
