Judith is a new American tavern pairing warm hospitality and the cooking of James Beard Nominated Chef Julia Sullivan (Henrietta Red in Nashville) located in the quiet area of Sewanee, TN near the University of the South. The name is an homage to Judith Ward Lineback, the first woman to matriculate into the University in 1969.As Sullivan’s first solo project, Judith will feature a seasonal menu of creative and approachable dishes including a selection of small, shareable plates perfect for the bar crowd. The beverage program mirrors the food with accessible wines and a cocktail list created by Henrietta Red's Beverage Manager Patrick Halloran.The warehouse-style building, previously the Old Steam Laundry which serviced the University since the 1950’s, has additional space for private dining and parties. With the goal of becoming a meeting place for students, faculty, tourists and the Sewanee community alike, the restaurant will be open for dinner from Thursday - Monday.

Several years ago, I decided that my future in the restaurant business would most likely not remain in the realm of fine dining and gourmands, but would rather lean towards the style of restaurant that I found myself frequenting most often - places that provided consistency and quality at a price that was fair for the quality of the food and experience. Public House plays to the comforts of good, solid food, while applying the principles of premium food products to a more casual setting.     We went to dinner with friends and everything was amazing! We had cocktails first , espresso martini was smooth and delicious. We had appetizers of pimento cheese, fried pickles, cornbread and deviled eggs. All were fantastic. Then for entrees we had seared scallops, Parmesan cheese grits, pot roast , and fried chicken. The service was great. Our waitress was friendly and accurate. We had a wonderful meal and good times with friends. We will definitely be back.

    This was my second visit, and we sat at the bar this time. We arrived early, and it was pretty empty, but by 7:15, it was packed with happy diners! We had oysters, trout rillette, leafy greens, whole trout, and mushrooms escabeche. All DELICIOUS!!! Had the tagliatelle last time we were here, and it was also spectacular. Decor is tasteful and modern. Cocktails are interesting and yummy. We had the parenthesis cocktail. Ingredients and dishes are unique and high quality, so prices are kind of high for the area. But totally worth the splurge!

    What a great place to visit on Christmas Eve. From staff to entrees everything was top notch. The scenery out on the deck is amazing!
