General Public is inspired by trying to imagine what an upscale English pub would be if it had the heart of an American brasserie (and was open 11 to 11). It’s also going to signal a little bit of steakhouse, but not too much. And finally, it will look behind itself at the Black Hoof, which you will see reflected in James Santon’s menu here and there. In terms of vibe, the main floor is ‘everything’s gone green’, with lush comfortable banquette seating, warm wood, and barstools designed for long conversations over many cocktails. We loved the food, ambience and our server. We did the trust Alma menu which was worth it as we tried so many items. Our server’s attention to us enhanced our experience. We would go again!

Fantastic beer, food is creative w/o pretension and was utterly delicious - excellent ingredients beautifully put together. The staff is outstanding- knowledgeable, warm, genuine. Burdock Brewery is an absolute gem in the landscape of Toronto restaurants and micro-breweries.

Great experience from the get. Sat at the bar and served by the bartender, Joe. Very personable and navigated me through the menu very well. It was quiet in the restaurant when I got there and half way through the place was packed. The pork secreto was perfect along with the shishitos. Finished the night with the basque cake which is a must. I have been following this restaurant on Instagram since 2013, it’s my first time to Toronto so I had to stop. Cannot wait to get back here!
