Across from Millennium park and along Chicago’s Cultural Mile, Acanto Restaurant + Wine Bar is a treasured destination for those who appreciate authentic and approachable Italian food in a conversation-friendly atmosphere. One of the oldest family-run businesses in the nation, now run by the fourth generation, Pete Berghoff. Today's Berghoff menus have evolved to add newer, lighter, and more contemporary dishes, but it's still the same old Berghoff, down to the famous root beer. In December 2018, the Berghoff family opened Adams Street Brewery, aptly named after the street they have called home for over a century, to nod to their brewing roots and commemorate the restaurant's 120th anniversary.

    Walnut Room Holiday Brunch was fantastic. Of course the Christmas decorations are amazing. Service was very good. The wait staff professional and accommodating. The brunch lines were not long and food fresh. They served the typical breakfast foods with pastries and fresh fruit. All very good. There were complimentary photos with option to purchase others. I have to say photographer Ronit Bezalel did an amazing job capturing my husband and me. I expected the traditional stand in front of the tree type photo, but Ronit was much more creative. Don’t pass this up if offered. A great holiday breakfast. Cheers!

    Our server, Divan, did a great job even though she had a lot of tables. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for Christmas, and the food was as good as ever. Entrees are accompanied by side dishes, and are generous, so no need for additional food to be ordered. The restaurant was crowded and thus a bit noisy, but that is to be expected. All the staff worked hard to keep up. Very authentic German food.

    The service and atmosphere were both wonderful! The food overall was very good. The sweet potato bisque soup was delicious…the garnish was a little off though - not sure what it was. There was also a spice I could not identify in the otherwise beautifully dressed house salad that was unpleasant enough I didn’t eat it —fine to add unique tastes to other dishes, but not something I’d expect in a basic house salad. I’d ordered the hamburger the last few times I’ve eaten there — always a winner! My friend took my advice and agreed! Glad I ventured out to try the Cuban sandwich - a new favorite. Last but not least the beignets were amazing! Always a great experience at the Gage!
