Delved into the culinary delights of Oak & Vine Cypress Lakes, a hidden gem of the Hunter Valley located on Thompsons Road in Pokolbin. This restaurant offers a discerning diners a meal that quintessentially represents the Hunter Valley, whether you choose to dine alfresco or take in views of the pool and manicured ground or head in side for a vibrant and relaxed atmosphere. Exclusive wines are expertly paired with a twist on Sri Lankan cuisine, such as coconut roti and chilli onion sambal to start, or Ceylon tea smoked duck breast, roasted beetroot emulsion, orange, feta and lemongrass foam. Set under soaring ceilings with fans languidly circling above, the restaurant and its adjoining terraces are the venues for a relaxed, yet refined a la carte dining experience. Foghorn Brewery was born of a dream to make craft beer the way it ought to be made—from grain to glass all under one roof.The historic building in King Street had been abandoned for several years when we first set foot inside. In that dusty old warehouse, we saw the potential to create something really special.And so it was that Newcastle’s first modern craft brewery opened its doors in April 2015. The town’s industrial roots have played a big part in shaping the unique character of Foghorn Brewery. Built from the ground up, this art deco era warehouse with exposed roof trusses now houses a custom 1800 litre brewery.

You’ll need to be in on a few secrets to visit Coal & Cedar. This hidden speakeasy has no signage and no doorbell. Instead, you’ll need to text a special code to a number on the wall and a host will open the door and usher you inside. Rest assured, it’s worth the effort, having just won Best Regional bar in Australia 2016.Once inside, you’ll discover a moody, eclectic cocktail bar with an urban edge. Exposed brick walls and dark timber are complemented by dim lighting from vintage chandeliers. Holding fewer than 60 guests, it’s this old world ambience that sets Coal & Cedar apart from Newcastle’s bar scene.Ethan and Ryan are the team behind the venture. In 2014, they packed their bags and moved from Sydney to the state’s largest regional city to work on their new dream bar. They found the perfect site on Hunter Street, which was just dingy enough to house a Prohibition-style speakeasy. Transforming the space with taxidermy, eccentric images and many a bottle of booze.

    The atmosphere at this restaurant is absolutely stunning, with breathtaking views overlooking the paddocks at Mount View. The setting strikes a perfect balance between elegance and casual charm, making it a welcoming and comfortable space. Chefs and owners Gabriel and James work their magic both in the kitchen and on the floor, creating a truly memorable dining experience. Whether you're planning a romantic dinner for two or a gathering with friends, this is a place I highly recommend. I'll definitely be back soon!

    A hidden Hunter Valley gem. The food is full of flavour and well-presented. Dishes vary from truly spicy to very mild but all good that we tried. Good wine list as well.

    You have the option to sit inside or outside over looking the lake and golf course. We had a group of 10 there wasn’t any table service so had to order food and drinks at the bar and it was very easy and quick and when the food arrived wow it was fantastic everyone was very pleased.

    It has been a long time since we have such an amazing dining experience. Tower restaurant is amazing. Each element that makes for a wonderful dining experience was outstanding. We would not hesitate to recommend Tower Restaurant and look forward to the next time we can return.
