General Public is inspired by trying to imagine what an upscale English pub would be if it had the heart of an American brasserie (and was open 11 to 11). It’s also going to signal a little bit of steakhouse, but not too much. And finally, it will look behind itself at the Black Hoof, which you will see reflected in James Santon’s menu here and there. In terms of vibe, the main floor is ‘everything’s gone green’, with lush comfortable banquette seating, warm wood, and barstools designed for long conversations over many cocktails. Upstairs you’ll find a completely different space that transports you to a peachy 80s dream.     This is my wife’s favourite restaurant in the GTA. It’s one of the only places we’ve been to in years where the food, service, cleanliness, and ambiance are perfect every time. We usually get a chicken tawook, some garlic labneh, some rice, some veggie skewers, and occasionally hummus or makanek if I’m feeling extra hungry. The lamb shank is also excellent. It’s nice to see an actual dining room manager floating around keeping an eye on dinner service without being overbearing. That’s an art in itself. We don’t really drink but we always get sparkling water and the type they carry is deliciously sharp. I’ve only had their sticky toffee pudding as far as the desserts go, but it was very good! Really nice ice cream that certainly tastes homemade to me. We’ll keep coming back if they keep it up like this!

    New additions to the menu (specifically the Tuna salad) was amazing. Will definitely order again. It's a busy place and quite large - great for a group gathering. Experienced team from the Eatons Centre location has made the opening (I am sure) easier - great to see Crystal. New team member (Natalie) as server was lovely, attentive, well trained in team culture. Will definitely be back.
