Byblos Café, originally a Mediterranean market, has been a staple in the orange circle since the 50’s. It was sold to Adel and Zalfa Mahshi in 1989. The family run business became a favorite in the town for Lebanese cuisine. Many locals loyally frequented the spot for their famous Turkish coffee. In 2022, Daily Dose Hospitality, the crew that also runs Bosscat Kitchen & Libations, purchased the business from the family. While Adel and Zalfa had the opportunity to retire, their son, Tim, joined the team alongside Pedram Yazarlou as operating partners. They have transitioned the cuisine to a Mediterranean fusion style with influences from Greece, Turkey, Iran, Lebanon, & Jordan.

Smoqued California Barbeque takes the traditionally southern practice of barbecue and gives it a west coast twist. The interior of the restaurant looks like any smokehouse one might find deep in Texas or up in Memphis. The whole establishment has a certain rustic and laid back charm that is easy to appreciate. In addition to serving up delicious barbecue, Smoqued is dedicated to serving the best in local craft brews. At any given time, there are a dozen local brewers being represented on the wall of taps. One of the best ways to start a meal here is with the Smoqued pork nachos with shoestring fries, mac sauce, mixed cheese, onions, tomato, jalapenos, chives and house BBQ sauce. We had a wonderful and tasty meal of seven fishes with wine pairings. Each fish item was the freshest and tastiest I have had and we buy our home fish from Santa Monica Seafood which is excellent but not as good as O Sea! My wife and I also did the wine pairings and enjoyed each wine and was relieved that none were too large. I apologized to Mike that we have not visited O Sea since last Christmas! Our New Years Resolution is to visit more often! Maybe O Sea could have more fish themed dinners like the opening day of trout season in CA…the first Saturday in April.

Everything about Haven Craft Kitchen + Bar is great! If you've never been, do try it. If you've been....you know what I'm talking about. We had a really great lunch today and loved the food and service was just right!
