Centered in the heart of Los Angeles, the historic building in which it resides was originally erected in 1929 by Charlie Chaplin, and later transformed into the iconic La Brea Bakery and Campanile Restaurant. République builds on this storied past, offering a gastronomic environment imbued with history and grandeur. The space features a casual bakery, café, and bar in the front with a more formal dining area located in the rear, serving a French-inspired menu created daily by our chefs.

Our family was born in Oaxaca and migrated to the US in 1994. Ever since then, our goal has been to showcase not only our family recipes, but also the hard work and dedication that goes into each of them. Each year, we travel to Oaxaca, and hand pick our ingredients, and carefully select the people we partner with. Guelaguetza is a restaurant, boutique market, and advocates for Oaxacan culture located in the heart of Korea-town in Los Angeles. We are an eclectic Los Angeles restaurant, located in Koreatown, heralded for its creativity and genre-defying cuisine. Their first restaurant together, owners Lien Ta and Chef Jonathan Whitener opened Here's Looking At You in 2016. Named a "Restaurant of the Year" by Food & Wine Magazine and one of Eater National's "38 Most Essential Restaurants," HLAY was also the subject of author Patric Kuh's "Becoming a Restaurateur."     The food is excellent. Sitting at the Mozza bar is a lot of fun. Cocktails and wine are perfection. All of that is definitely worthy of its Michelin star. But what really elevated last night’s experience was Elyssa’s fantastic service. She gave great advice on the menu and recommended the perfect wine to go with it all.

    Everything from the food to the service were great. It is as the name implies, open air. Therefore, be sure to wear something warm on a cold evening. For a first date, the noise levels were moderate enough to have a conversation, but you might have to lean in at times to hear your date. All said, I would go back. Tip: when you enter the hotel lobby, take a right to the elevators and go up to the second floor.
