The Hillside is a charming, rustic pub situated in the historic Georgian village of Hillsborough, County Down, only 15 minutes drive from Belfast city centre. The Hillside first opened its doors to patrons in 1752 and has been enjoying a busy trade ever since thanks to our excellent food and drinks selection and our friendly, welcoming service. Yardbird is our rotisserie chicken restaurant upstairs above The Dirty Onion. Our menu is small but our flavours are big. Ok, we do chicken, but our chicken is famous!Our local free-to-roam chicken is marinated for 24 hours in lemon, buttermilk, and paprika. It is then dry-rubbed, cooked and blast-chilled to keep it juicy and finally roasted on the spit. Ribs and wings are also available, as are a choice of sides and homemade desserts.     On arrival we were greeted by pleasant young girl who showed us to our table. We then ordered a drink and studied both menus. We started a cheese dish. We then had seabass and a pork dish. At this I must say there was more ample portions. The food was excellent . We did not have dessert but instead had an Irish coffee Our experience was 5 star and would highly recommend the Hillside .

    Really great experience. Went on Valentines Day and I left it late to book. The staff were superb. Busy restaurant but we were very well attended too. The food was superb - a unique take on the classics. Thoroughly recommend.

    We were here lunchtime for valentine's day,staff were helpful and service was great,my wife ordered the chowder as a main and it was best ever and ceaser salad was excellent as well, waitress was good at offering to take a picture of ourselves and new baby son.

    Lovely lunch Great service Loved the sea bass Negative comment If not at a booth , the normal tables are too close! I dislike hearing every word your neighbours say plus trying to squeeze between tables is not easy!
