State of Grace is a coastal, South Texas neighborhood restaurant in the refurbished Lamar-River Oaks Shopping Center. Elegant but casual, its elevated comfort food by executive chef Bobby Matos is executed at the highest level in a welcoming, beautiful space. The jubilant medley of old favorites played with new spice, accent, and freshness lends itself to southern, American, Latin, Gulf Coast, German and Asian influences. Chef-owner Ford Fry’s first venture outside of Atlanta, State of Grace is located in the neighborhood where Ford grew up and nods to his childhood memories fused with Houston’s evolution into a melting pot of cultures and cuisines.

Restauranteur Shawn Virene put the POP into Houston with his wildly successful a’Bouzy. This champagne-fueled spot located in the tony River Oaks neighborhood of town attracts a stylish crowd all day. The bar is always bustling and the patio echoes with the cry – “a Bouzy!” every time a bottle is sabered tableside. In fact, most tables will have multiple wine buckets close by, keeping the bubbly cool. When owner Johnny Carrabba set out on his next restaurant venture, he knew his vision would include the fond memories he had of his dear grandmother Grace Mandola. Grace, also known to the family as Mama, was a Sicilian woman born to immigrant parents in Louisiana. She had a flair for cooking, hospitality, and deep faith.She was known to make bread from scratch every Saturday for her legendary three-hour Sicilian Sunday lunches; and, her newly established family roots in Louisiana added interesting flavors to her home cooked meals. The entire Mandola family, including her five children and fourteen grandchildren, was regularly greeted in her home with smells of warm bread, well brewed sauces and homemade soups. It was around her table that her family learned the true meaning and value of relationships, friendships and good food.

    We had a wonderful experience. Service was very on point and timeliness was perfect. Our server was amazing, friendly and provided awesome service. The food was sooo delicious. Everything was fantastic, including the drinks and desserts. The ambience is great. I took my sister for her birthday and she had such a great time. Most of all I appreciate how kind everyone was and amazing food and ambience.

    From the crispy shrimp and beet salad to the flavorful steak, caramel cake, and great coffee, every course was phenomenal. By far one of my favorite dinner experiences of the year and favorite steakhouses in Houston. Ask for MICHELLE A - Stellar waitress who was above and beyond and served with excellence and a great, fun attitude. Only complaint was the volume of the people sitting in the booth that is connected to ours.

    Last night, my husband, a steak connoisseur, and I enjoyed a fantastic dinner at Mastro's. It was a pleasure to have the chef Erasmo come out and allow him to select his steak. Our server, Tyler was exceptional - friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The food was top-notch, and the drinks were excellent. We highly recommend it.
