Way back in 1975, the Sail Loft lit the fire for Steve Silverstein, who went on to open nearly 40 restaurants. Located in the quintessential seaside village of Padanaram, it was the neighborhood place where you could get a good (strong) drink, chef prepared comfort food and relax in a convivial atmosphere with familiar faces. The Sail Loft was everyone’s favorite place; it was a hangout where some came for food and others for drink.When the Sail Loft became available in 2021, Steve jumped on the opportunity to take the wheel. Steve and his wife Judy transformed the Sail Loft into an elevated neighborhood restaurant with a distinct updated boatyard feel. The spot is nautical with a chef-driven yet approachable menu, a deep selection of spirts and an intriguing wine list. As with all of Silverstein’s places, while the food, drink and design are always top-notch, it is the warm hospitality that keeps ‘em coming back.

Cultivator Shoals is also a rich fishing area on Georges Bank, established in 1929 where Rose Alley is now and frequented by the world-famous New Bedford Fishermen.We tip our hat to Howie Mallowes & Jay Lanagan who had the vision to remake Cultivator Shoals as an artisan cocktail bar and relocate to the Benjamin Taber Double House; a place that Melville lived in off and on. Our drinks are classic with modern twists, all hand-made to order, following time-honored techniques. Our beers are a rotating selection of local and regional craft brewers, our wine list is a highly curated selection of new and old-world bottles. Our food is chef-made from scratch; we serve bar food with a twist. Our friendly team is some of the best bartenders and chefs in the area.     This has quickly become one of our favorites! It’s adorable, focused on local businesses, has great choices from sit down dinner to grab and go. Service is fantastic and everyone is so friendly. Prices are great and food is delicious.

    We had a nice meal again. My wife had the halibut entree and I had a Nantucket scallop scampi special-both delicious. Our server, Matty, was delightful. We shared crab cake appetizer and I tried the Azorean Old Fashion cocktail which was very good but the maple syrup doesn’t mix well and leaves pure syrup at the bottom of the drink-too thick and sweet. My wife enjoyed a glass of cab wine. We were too full to consider dessert. Very busy place, as always, bustling with activity

    The downstairs experience is like a total Boston speakeasy vibe!! The lighting, booths, and just all around vibe was the perfect mix. The food was above expectations and the martini was *chefs kiss! Perfect for girls night, date night, or just a nice meal.

    Very sweet place! This was my first time at Carmines. I took my sister in law from out of state. I got the muscle littleneck app. Unfortunately they were not fresh.at all. Waitstaff amazing! My sister-in-law’s steak was good. Would go back for sure.
