We went to Drury Lane’s brunch with carolers for our anniversary. I could have easily given it five stars. The atmosphere was nice, food was fine, and wait staff was friendly. Right at the end, though, there was a service lapse that left a bad taste in our mouths. The server gave us a card that said happy anniversary, with two $5 vouchers for the restaurant, a nice gesture. When I looked more closely, however, the vouchers expired in two days (it was Dec. 29 and they expired Dec. 31)! Who goes to a $255 brunch-for-two every other day? I asked the waitress if I was reading it correctly and she said, “Oh, yes. Sorry about that.” And that was it! No, “Let me talk to the manager and get you a voucher with a later expiration,” or anything. Just, sorry, and then she left.
What could have been a nice—albeit low-value—gesture, wound up empty and worthless; and more to the point, it was a really poor way for the server to close out our fancy anniversary brunch. Otherwise, I really would have considered coming again for a special occasion.
