50 Dallas Restaurants to Connect In For Mother's Day

Neiman Marcus got into the food business in the late 1940's because one of the company's founders, Herbert Marcus Sr., was tired of the substandard food in downtown Dallas. His eyesight was failing as a result of hypertension, and making lunchtime excursions was becoming more difficult. One day his son Mr. Stanley, remarked half-jokingly, 'Well, you may be forced to open your own kitchen, dedicated to meeting your very exacting demands.' Soon after, Mr. Stanley hired a cook to prepare lunches for his father in a small room on the top floor of the store. He would invite vendors and guests to have lunch with him, and pretty soon his penthouse space became a popular venue and a busy place. After his death in 1950, Mr. Stanley embarked on expanding and remodeling the store. Mr. Stanley, who was by then president and chief executive officer of Neiman Marcus, decided that having a full-service restaurant on one of the new floors would help keep customers in the store when they came for a day of shopping. After all, a sated shopper is a happy shopper. And so, in 1953, the Zodiac Room was opened. Neiman Marcus Cookbook 2003

Mariposa always makes me nostalgic for lunches with my late mother after Christmas shopping. Always look forward to the savory chicken broth and fresh hot popovers with strawberry butter. Salad trio and sampler were excellent and beautifully presented . Service was outstanding and we even got extra chicken broth…very much appreciated. A perfect way to complement our leisurely day of shopping.

Tara was our server and took care of our every need / want quickly and pleasantly. Food and drinks came out quickly cold or hot, whichever was appropriate. She was also very good to offer to-go boxes and drinks when she realized we’d finally sat back in our chairs and were conversing versus quiet and eating. Excellent experience and I look forward to going back and curing something different.

Always a pleasure to dine here. So many wonderful perks like the popovers with strawberry butter and broth in a demitasse to start us off and all the wonderful food offerings. The desserts are amazing. Love it all!

Dawn our Hostess was so gracious as we arrived about 20 minutes early allow us to be seated right away. JJ our waiter was very polite, professional, and courteous the the wild caught salmon was just wonderful. Overall, it was a fantastic experience. A great place to have lunch with a friend 💫
