A contemporary take on the classic oyster bar, located in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, near BAM, Barclay's, the Paramount, and Atlantic Terminal. Beauty & Essex has an innovative design that starts in the restaurant’s entrance, a well-curated modern-day pawn shop replete with a saxophone, boom­box, quirky artifacts, vintage treasures, and an eclectic array of “one-off” pieces of jewelry. Continuing past the pawnshop, guests encounter a grand, circular staircase wrapped around a two-story custom chandelier, but only the adventurous will discover all that Beauty & Essex has to offer. With four distinct dining rooms (one private), two bars, a lounge, and a women’s bathroom complete with a salon including a luxurious sofa, and antique perfume bottles.     Love our meal at strange delight. The room is surprisingly beautiful. The cocktails were very well-made. And the dishes we tried were wonderful. Prices are definitely high, the gin ramos fizz is $10 more than when it was reviewed in August, but I would return. The food, drinks and ambulance were wonderful.

    This place was fantastic! The staff were all super attentive and helpful; they all provided great service. The food and drinks were delicious and reasonably priced. Plates were great for sharing. I loved how the restaurant was separated into a slightly more lively front section and a cozy/intimate back room which was perfect for a quiet dinner with friends. I will definitely be coming back!

    This restaurant offers a delightful dining experience before or after a performance at BAM. It’s a few blocks from BAM. There is outdoor seating. We started with spicy guacamole while the mixed ceviche was a hit with our granddaughter, who couldn't get enough of it (it wasn't quite to my taste). Our granddaughter enjoyed her steak tacos, and my pork tostada—which came as a pair—was delicious. My husband's mixed tacos were also delicious. The atmosphere is charming and the staff are attentive. We recommend this place for a delicious meal in a cozy space.
