John’s Grill is one of my most favorite restaurants in SF. The staff are efficient and friendly. The ambiance is great, and I enjoy taking first-timers to this gem. The food is great, and my favorite is Jack LaLanne seafood salad with a glass of Chardonnay. Steaks and pasta dishes are great too! Make a toast or two to Hammett, Bogart, Astor, Greenstreet etc. Save a bit of time to check out The Maltese Falcon and other film noir items upstairs. Enjoy the day!

We were a party of 5. 3 of us showed up on time. We were forced to wait until our friends (2 of them) showed. Not the best first impression. However, the restaurant is wonderful. Food was wonderful. our waiter, Scott, was absolutely wonderful and the music (Jazz combo) was wonderful.

Wonderful service and good enough food. The room is cozy with a fire.

Es ist ein recht gutes Restaurant. Zwar etwas abseits vom Trubel, aber (!) dafür an der Cable Car Linie gelegen. Fisch in Folie war sehr gut, die Cioppino ebenfalls recht gut. In Verbindung mit dem recht guten Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis empfehlen wir das Restaurant.
