Open since October of 1990, The Dakota has been a pioneer in the culinary industry on the Northshore of Lake Pontchartrain. Their cuisine is influenced by the flavorful Creole cuisine, with Contemporary Louisiana. Other influences include the Southwest, California, and Asia using fresh local and seasonal ingredients.     I didn't catch the name of the maitre d' but he set the tone for our wonderful dining experience. When making the reservation, I did not mention it being my birthday (I still don't know how he knew), but he greeted us with a warm smile and wished me a happy birthday. Paul, our server, continued the fantastic service. He explained the special menu items and was patient with my 10 and 7-year old boys as we asked questions and explored the choices. Our beverage levels were closely monitored but not intrusive, and the food was perfection. None of us had any room for dessert, but the complementary and phenomenal birthday bread pudding (with a lit candle and four spoons!) topped off a delightful evening.
