Founded in 1996 the ideas for the Marblehead Chowder House were actually hatched a few years before. Sitting at "The Barnacle," overlooking Marblehead Harbor one raw winter day, while the spume from the rough saltwater painted the windows and the Sam Adams Lager flowed freely, a concept was born. Casual, coastal and cozy - fresh seafood, fin fish, shellfish and hearty chowders in a warm, relaxing atmosphere that says "seaside" - a place that had tradition, patriotism, and a New England heritage about it. Fresh ingredients, house-made soups and chowders, comfort food with a twist freshly prepared to order were all musts! Went with a large group of friends so we may have contributed to an increase in noise level! But we did sit in the bar, so hopefully didn’t disrupt anyone’s quiet meal. Food was excellent. Service was a bit slow, but they didn’t have a lot of help that night so our waitress did a great job for having to take care of so many tables. We had fun, enjoyed our meals, and will come back!

I went with to celebrate a birthday and an anniversary. From them moment we arrived the staff were polite, friendly and accommodating, especially our server Igor. I highly recommend the antipasto board and the lobster carbonara. On the antipasto board was a new item a whipped honey truffle ricotta cheese ball. It was amazing. The atmosphere and decor make it perfect for a special occasion or just getting together with friends and family.

It was truly a vibe! The atmosphere, the food, the drinks, the service… everything exceeded our expectations! Special Thanks to Caleb who dealt with our shenanigans and was so attentive and patient. I am sure we will be back! My sisters and I had an amazing time! Thank you!
