Since 1746, the building that houses this tavern has played a part in the establishment of our nation; first as a respite for stagecoach travelers expanding westward and later as a covert rendezvous point for George Washington, Marquis de Lafayette, and other leaders of the American revolution. It is believed that during the infamous winter of 1777–1778 at Valley Forge, a major figure in the Continental Army, master military mind Friedrich Von Steuben, designated the tavern as a secret black powder munitions stash for Continental Army couriers. All the while, the tavern continued to provide food, shelter and cheer to the hungry, weary soldiers fighting for their independence. Today, we honor our historic tavern’s tradition with a mission to raise the spirits of our guests. We invite you to experience the small and large plates, craft beers and revolutionary hospitality that is Black Powder Tavern.

Hook & Ladder is the unexpected steakhouse you’d never thought you’d find in the historic, original firehouse of the Washington Fire Company. This is a one-of-a-kind Skybar experience allowing guests a close view of our 149 year old firehouse, bell tower and original stained glass windows. A unique cross between a chop house and Crudo bar, Hook & Ladder features Certified A5 Japanese wagyu beef that will melt in your month. Dry aged Steak offerings including 32 days dry aged Porterhouse (28oz), 32 days aged Tomahawk Ribeye (40oz) that will taste decidedly beefy, much like a rare roast beef, while also taking on subtler hints of other delicious flavors. Crudo uses the Japanese technique of curing the fish making it more tender and flavorful. Finishing it with lime, lemon, and soy; featuring Wild King Salmon, Japanese Madai, Hamachi and more. Enjoy the purest and fresh take on some classic cocktails.

The Burgess is a new restaurant located at historic Jeffersonville Golf Club in Norristown. Our Kitchen, helmed by Norristown native Kyle Edmonds, stresses a balance between comfort and fine dining. Using the backbone of modern bar food with a twist, the food is fresh and exciting. This is not just a space for an after-round drink and snack. The bar is focused on craft beer and signature cocktails. Seasonal and rotating to keep things fresh for guests and the staff.
