Centered in the heart of Los Angeles, the historic building in which it resides was originally erected in 1929 by Charlie Chaplin, and later transformed into the iconic La Brea Bakery and Campanile Restaurant. République builds on this storied past, offering a gastronomic environment imbued with history and grandeur. Food was great except the meatballs. Salmon Tartine was so good we ordered another one. Wine was nice and all the staff was great. Server was wonderful, hostess wonderful. We sat at one of the the high tables in the bar area. The only problem is the high stools with the flimsy backs need to be changed. Totally uncomfortable and you slide right out of them plus the upholstery is worn out.

Lovely night. Service was fabulous. Food was terrific. Lots of complex tastes and prep. They never make things "normally." Special. If you want a quiet experience, make sure to ask for the back dining room. Upstairs would probably be quiet too. Louder and livelier in the front room.

A very unique experience! My husband and I celebrated our ten year anniversary here and it felt like we were visiting another world all-together. The ambiance with its ethereal music and beautiful art yarn tapestry draping from the ceilings surrounded by plants and vines, transported us from our normal lives. Our seven-course-meal was wonderful and appreciated tastes and textures we've never had before. We walked away mesmerized and our bellies full!
